A new technical resource is now available on BEGIN3D.com, introducing the entire procedure for generating 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) using RealityScan (formerly RealityCapture) in combination with Postshot.
The documentation also presents detailed output comparisons across a wide range of parameter configurations.

Once regarded as experimental, 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has rapidly moved toward practical implementation in day-to-day 3D workflows.
This document outlines the full workflow of 3DGS generation using RealityScan and Postshot, and compiles capture-based output results for a wide range of parameter settings across 511 pages. The purpose of this resource is to help RealityScan users reduce the time and effort required for testing and evaluation when considering the adoption of 3DGS.
Since the emergence of NeRF, next-generation 3D generation technologies have garnered strong attention within technical communities. However, due to the rapid proliferation of competing tools and derivatives, adoption in professional workflows has been slow—often hindered by fragmentation and a lack of standardized specifications.
In contrast, 3DGS is developing within a more coherent ecosystem where compatibility and shared specifications are taking shape. The benefits of combining 3DGS with existing technologies are becoming increasingly clear, suggesting that it is reaching the point of being recognized as a standard tool in the 3D production pipeline.
Postshot is a 3DGS generation tool developed by Jawset Visual Computing.
As of June 2025, it is available as a free beta version via early access for technical users.
The software features a graphical user interface, well-validated output quality, and support for integration with Unreal Engine and other platforms—making it a highly capable 3DGS tool.
Even considering its possible future commercialization, we find Postshot to be a strong recommendation for RealityScan users and have included it in this guide accordingly.
RealityCapture, which was utilized for generating 3D scan models in this case, is a photogrammetry software widely employed in professional fields worldwide. It enables the creation of highly precise 3D models from photo data, laser scan data, or both. Moreover, RealityScan stands as the fastest solution in the industry. Its swift processing enhances operational efficiency, allowing for a focused pursuit of core objectives.
